In the Vocational Training Center VTC in the 10th of Ramadan, Sharekya, mechanical students in a workshop gather in front of an open car. Mohamed Ahmed Farhan, the trainer, talks to them about their future, their career, their personal growth and the challenges they face.
Mohamed graduated from the Technical Education Institute and then from the Faculty of Technical Education in 2006. After his enrollment in the military, he worked in the private sector and then looked for a job in the educational sector.
In 2011, Mohamed started his work at PVTD Vocational Training Center in the 10th of Ramadan. Mohamed explained: “Until 2016, I was teaching Engineering of cars theoretically. At first, I doubted my capabilities to teach the mechanical technology of cars, but I worked on myself. The VTC administration trusted me. With a lot of self-education and patience, I taught myself everything related to hydraulics and how cars function.”
Three years ago, most of the teachers and trainers in the cars sector at the VTC went abroad and on retention. Mohamed had to step in. “I had no choice but to work on myself, taught myself everything and became the Head of the Cars` workshop in the theoretical and practical education at the Center,” he continued.
The Head of the 10th of Ramadan Institute has informed Mohamed that the MEPEP TOT funded by the EU will be held at the Don Bosco Institut. Mohamed found what he was looking for. He was always searching for an opportunity for training or a workshop in his field to enhance his skills and grow.
“My dream is to sell an end product at the VTC. In Sharkeya, we have a lot of potential, modern supplies and machinery that we own. I dream of opening a service centre affiliated with the PVTD where the students learn, work and earn money”, Mohamed narrated.
Mohamed believes that every student should educate himself with knowledge, create a career and find a way to benefit his community. “I tell my students not to believe in the false dreams of immigration and to look at the opportunities in the country where car mechanics and TVET are the future.”
Mohamed`s story is not the only one. It is one of many stories where MEPEP, with the support of the EU, has played a role in people’s academic, technical and personal lives. It is one of many stories of success, patience and hope. Hope for a future without illegal immigration and educated Egyptian youth.
